Art about Art: Writing Workshops
The University of New Mexico Art Museum is pleased to announce the launch of a new creative writing program for students – Art about Art. All UNM students are eligible to apply to participate in the semester-long program. Students will meet monthly in February and March on a Saturday to work on original poems, short stories or non-fiction inspired by or in response to selected works of art, as John Keats’ poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn” was inspired by a Greek krater. Activities at each workshop will involve students in deep engagement with a work of art as well as ekphrastic (writing about art) exercises such as personification (in which an inanimate object is given human qualities), ethopoeia (putting oneself in place of another), and two-voice poems, to name a few.
The program will culminate in a public reading to be held in the Museum in April.
To apply, please submit a one-page cover letter explaining why you want to participate, attach your resume, and e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org, Sara Otto-Diniz, Curator of Academic Initiatives.
Ten applicants will be chosen to participate in the project.
Deadline: February 10, 2014.
