Oscar Muñoz: Biografías

preceded by a members’ preview at 5 pm.*

Oscar Muñoz: Biografías features a selection of compelling video works by one of Latin America’s most significant contemporary artists. A recent recipient of the 2013 Prince Claus Award, Muñoz’ provocative videos investigate human conditions of fragility and explore the instability of the human image in relationship to constructions of history, identity, and memory. Featuring the potent three channel video installation Biografías (2002) as well as the single channel videos Línea del destino (2006) and Hombre de ArenaOscar Muñoz Biografías exhibition is organized by the UNM Art Museum as a satellite exhibition of Digital Latin America, organized by 516 Arts and partners. Luz Restirada: Latin American Photography from the UNM Art Museum

With an opening reception, Friday, June 6, 6 – 8 pm,
preceded by a members’ preview at 5 pm.*

Luz Restirada examines how photographers working in Latin America have navigated the interplay of technology, art and history from the 19th century up to the present as well as the social and cultural role photography has played in Central and South America. Luz Restirada presents works from the UNM Art Museum’s Latin American holdings in an effort to broaden the historical context of art and cultural exchange in this part of the world. Included in the exhibition are photographs by Pedro Meyer, Flor Garduño, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Luis González Palma, Joel-Peter Witkin and Vik Muniz.
