UNM Art Museum Director Candidate Lecture & Reception, Monday November 2, 5:00pm

The UNM Art Museum Director Search Committee has invited three candidates to campus to give a public lecture at the Museum and following the lecture the UNM Art Museum will host a reception with the candidate. These events are open to the public and we hope that you can join us as we prepare to usher in a new era at the museum. All events will be at the UNM Art Museum. Candidate #2 and #3 information will be announced prior to their lecture/reception.

David Burton is an arts and museum professional, and a writer. He spent sixteen and a half years at the Autry National Center, most recently as Senior Director of the Institute for the Study of the American West. David joined the Autry in 1998, holding progressively senior roles as a development officer, including Director of Government Affairs and Special Projects, before becoming head of the Institute and a part of the Autry’s leadership team. Prior to the Autry, he spent five years as executive director of the Language Resource Institute in San Francisco.

As a volunteer, David is on the board of Arts for LA, an advocacy organization that targets government policy-makers, funding agencies, school boards, private business, and the general public to promote the importance of arts and culture in creating health and vitality in civic life. He is also the board chair of City Garage, a small theatre company in Santa Monica specializing in contemporary European and American plays as well as original company work. David received a B.A. in History from UCLA and a Masters in English/Creative Writing from San Francisco State University. His short stories, poetry, articles, and critical writings have appeared in a various journals; and he once wrote, produced, and hosted his own radio show.
