From Raymond Jonson to Kiki Smith: The UNM Art Museum’s Permanent Collection at Fifty Years

In celebration of the UNM Art Museum’s 50th Anniversary, the exhibition, From Raymond Jonson To Kiki Smith: The UNM Art Museum’s Permanent Collection At Fifty Years will present highlights and recent acquisitions selected from the museum’s permanent collection of over 30,000 works of art. Built largely through the generosity of artists, collectors, and donors, the UNM Art Museum holds the largest public art collection in the state of New Mexico and contains works of art that represent a diversity of cultural and aesthetic traditions. The exhibition will feature works by many noted artists including Ansel Adams, Alexander Archipenko, Larry Bell, Ernest Blumenschein, Bruce Conner, Juan Correa, David Hare, Raymond Jonson, Donald Judd, Lodovico Lipparini, Georgia O’Keeffe, Bridget Riley, Julius Rolshoven, Robert Ryman, Alison Saar, Fritz Scholder, Kiki Smith, and Luis Tapia, amongst many others and will include major works of modern and contemporary painting, sculpture, and works on paper, a selection of the museum’s historic European and Spanish Colonial paintings and sculpture, as well as selections of the museum’s collection of Retablos, African sculpture, and Mata Ortiz Pottery.

On the occasion of its 50th Anniversary, the UNM Art Museum, which was founded in 1963, is delighted to present three concurrent exhibitions, which together survey its remarkable permanent collection of over 30,000 works of art spanning the 15th century to the present.
